Doha, May 01 (QNA) - Director of Facilities At The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qatar 2024 Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Faihani said that the Qatar's hosting of the of the tournament has once again confirmed Qatar's status as a leading country in hosting major sports events, considering its world-class infrastructure, great capabilities and expertise in organizing regional, continental and international sporting events.
Al Faihani considered, in press statements, that hosting the tournament is an embodiment of the direct legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, as the two of the four stadiums hosting the tournament's matches are World Cup stadiums, noting that the tournament sheds light on the human legacy left by hosting major tournaments, including the 2022 World Cup and the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.
He highlighted that the development of modern infrastructure and sports facilities, as well as the country's proven record in hosting major sports tournaments, prove time and again Qatar's ability to host any major sporting event in the future.
The four stadiums are also connected to an integrated network of modern means of transportation supported by a world-class system of infrastructure projects, including the Doha Metro, electric buses, tram service, and highways, to ensure a comfortable transportation experience throughout the tournament.
Eng. Al Faihani explained that the selection of the four stadiums to host the championship competitions came after extensive discussions between the LOC and the Asian Football Confederation, taking into account many criteria that made them the ideal choice, including the capacity of these facilities, in addition to their convenient location and proximity to the training stadiums and the public transportation network, and to the accommodation of the participating, considering that the tournament stadiums provided an exceptional experience for fans, including providing special seats for fans with disabilities. These stadiums also have well equipped media centers to meet the needs of media representatives. The local organizing committee also provided training fields for the participating teams located throughout Qatar. (QNA)
